INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS
At the heart of serving our customers is coming up with new ways to provide value through innovative products and services. Our team of project managers, engineers, and skilled craftsmen continually work with our customers to find exciting new ways to leverage precast to build more efficiently and deliver projects faster, safer, and more affordably.
UNDERBRIDGE TUBS
UNDERBRIDGE TUBS
In order to complete final phase of the Chicago Riverwalk extension, the project called for bridges underneath the roadways to connect the pedestrian access points. UCP aided in the accelerated construction of this project by precasting underbridge tubs weighing nearly 165,000lbs. After these tubs were barged down the river, they were jacked into place, and secured to the piers. Once they were locked into place, the contractor was able to use the precast underbridge as a safe working platform to install the railings, overhangs, and finishing concrete.
PRECAST PLATFORMS
PRECAST PLATFORMS
Rail transportation is an essential system in Chicagoland. Traditionally, when new stations were constructed, the pedestrian platforms were cast in place on elevated beams in heavily congested areas. Over the years, we have helped our customers win more bids and increase on-site safety by precasting these platforms.
WAVE WALL
WAVE WALL
A new Northwestern University athletic facility built along Lake Michigan’s shoreline has panoramic views over the water however it has a fundamental problem with exposure to waves. The solution was a wall designed to structurally withstand the harsh wave impact while mirroring the naturally curved layout of the beach. The wall includes (109) 5’ wide segments with integral “sand buff color” that stand 20' tall. This innovative design included splice sleeves, angle connections, specialty formwork, and a whole lot of ingenuity that lead to a successful installation for the contractor and a 1st place award to UCP from the Prestress/Precast Concrete Institute!
WEIGH-IN-MOTION SLABS
WEIGH-IN-MOTION SLABS
Traditionally, 18-wheelers exit the highway at weigh-in-stations as part of their standard protocol costing them valuable time and money. Utility Concrete Products helps decrease down time for freight-haulers by providing precast concrete slabs with embedded weight sensors promoting a more efficient flow of goods across the Chicagoland area.
