Project Highlights

We have recently finished many exciting projects here at UCP. See some of the precast concrete solutions we created below!

CTA Wilson Transfer Station

UCP produced 67 precast concrete slabs for the west platform of the CTA Wilson Transfer Station Project in Chicago, IL. There is still work to be done to finish the installation of the platforms, including installing the canopy columns, decorative precast medallions (which UCP will also be providing), tactile strip, windbreak structures, and other items. Once the platform is complete it will be used by the surrounding community quite extensively, as it is located next to Harry S. Truman college and most of the residents in the area rely on public transportation.

We also fabricated 100 precast sound walls and 3 precast stair sections for this project. The job site photos show the installation of the west sound wall and pictures of the stairs in their final position. The stairs will serve as one of the ways to access the platforms in conjunction with the precast ramp slabs on the south end of the platform. The texture on the street side of the sound wall panels is a formliner sandblast finish that closely matches the sandblast finish on the platforms and stairs. There is also an east portion of the project which will also include precast sound walls, platforms and stairs, which will be installed in 2017.

Blue Island Bridge Pier Cap

We supplied a 48’-0″ long x 1’-8” wide x 3’-9 5/8” tall precast concrete pier cap for the Illinois Department of Transportation. This pier cap was used for a Bridge Rehabilitation Project in Blue Island, IL and was installed as a structural component of the Division St. Bridge over the CAL SAG Channel. The use of precast concrete elements, such as this precast concrete pier cap, for bridge construction projects is a key aspect of Accelerated Bridge Construction (referred to as ABC), which decreases on site construction time and can save money for the contractor and owner. This is one of IDOT’s first bridge projects to utilize precast concrete pier caps.

Northwestern University Manholes

UCP recently produced several 15′-0″x12′-0″x9′-0″ and 15′-0″x9′-0″x9′-0″ distribution manholes that were installed at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL along Lake Michigan. Due to the project’s proximity to the lake, precast manholes were the ideal solution for a quick and easy install, despite the wet jobsite conditions.

Oswego Noise Abatement Wall

We recently produced precast columns and Noise Abatement Wall panels for an IDOT project along IL 71 in Oswego, IL. The form liner on each face of the panel has a 1” reveal stone texture with a 4” soldier course at the top of the wall, and it has been painted a dark brown color. This wall was installed in a residential area as a means to protect the surrounding homes from the noise of the nearby roadway.

Cell Blocks Modular Pads

UCP teamed up with Cell Blocks, Inc. to produce and deliver a modular, post-tensioned foundation for a cellular tower in East Moline, IL. Excellent communication and open dialogue contributed to a successful project which incorporated tight tolerances and many quality control checks. This Cell Blocks, Inc. pad design included sixteen blocks weighing between 14,000 lbs and 15,000 lbs each. We look forward to our next project with Cell Blocks.
