Project Highlights

We have recently finished many exciting projects here at UCP. See some of the precast concrete solutions we created below!

I&M Canal Eco-Span Arches

UCP fabricated/delivered its first Eco-Span Arch System, which consisted of 7 precast arch structures that were 34’ span x 8’-0” tall in 6′-0″ segments. These were part of the improvements on IDOT Contract 61D71 and were designed by the Pretek Group. The arch structures were set on top of CIP foundations to span over the Illinois and Michigan Canal in Lockport, Illinois. The structures were installed within one day, ultimately saving the installing contractor time and resources. UCP looks forward to providing many more Eco-Span Arch Systems in the near future.

Substation Firewall

UCP recently designed and supplied a substation precast firewall system. This wall was designed for a minimum fire rating of two hours and consisted of three precast columns and a total of four firewall panels. Unlike typical firewalls that we’ve produced, the aesthetics of this wall were given consideration and the contractor choose a 1.5” ashlar stone texture for the panels and columns along with a gadget gray paint color. A smaller column design was used, keeping the panel to column connection snug, helping with ease of installation for the contractor.

Oak Creek Lockport Box Culvert

Utility Concrete Products recently installed box culverts in the subdivision Oak Creek of Lockport. The box culverts included 10 pieces with an opening of 8’-0″ wide x 9’-0″ tall and 20 pieces with an opening of 8’-0″ wide x 8’-0″ tall. They were installed in three parallel runs at a length of 72’ per run. These box culverts allowed the developer to access the next phase of their development by properly crossing Oak Creek. Installation was completed over a day and a half. Please contact UCP for options on prices and sizes of box culverts.

St. Charles Dog House Manhole

UCP recently produced an 18′-0″ x 11′-0″ x 8′-0″ T shaped dampproofed manhole that was installed in St. Charles, IL, along Kirk Rd. This structure was initially designed as cast-in-place, but UCP engineered a precast solution for this project. By utilizing a precast design that included doghouse openings to accommodate existing utilities, the disruption of traffic was minimal during the installation process. The roof of the structure was specially formed with an indentation, to allow the structure to fit up against the curb. The success of this project was due to extensive coordination and communication between The City of St. Charles, UCP Sales, Engineering, Production, and the installing contractor.

Unilever Light Pole Foundations

We recently produced (34) 30” diameter x 16’-0″ tall precast light pole foundations for the Unilever Drop Lot in Chicago. These are the tallest light pole foundations we have made to date, and each one weighed close to 12,000 lbs. Utilizing precast bases rather than pouring these in the field allowed the contractor the ease of same day base and pole installation, with no cure time required.
