Project Highlights
We have recently finished many exciting projects here at UCP. See some of the precast concrete solutions we created below!
Peoria Street Precast Deck Panels
UCP played a key role in the reconstruction of the Peoria Street pedestrian bridge spanning over I-290 in downtown Chicago, IL. This project capitalized on the innovative precast concrete Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) techniques that allow for high strength, thinner bridge sections and reduced delays and lane closures. The innovative, 271-linear-feet bridge, completed in the summer of 2015, includes 15,272 square feet of 8-inch precast deck panels that were set transverse to the main longitudinal I-beams in just four working days.

Precast Concrete Pilasters
UCP supplied precast concrete aesthetic pilasters for the Illinois Tollway and Elk Grove Village. These pilasters were installed adjacent to the bridge abutments and piers at the I-90 overpass at Arlington Heights Road. The precast covers the structural components of the bridge while providing an appealing look to passing motorists.

Box Culvert End Sections
UCP was contracted to design, engineer, and produce six precast concrete box culvert end sections for three locations in Elk Grove Village, IL. Excellent communication between UCP, our customer, and the owner of the project resulted in completion of the project within a tight time frame making it a success all around. These structures exceeded 17’ in width, over 11’ tall, and weighed nearly 50,000 pounds, which required special permitted loads. We look forward to our next challenging project!

6″ Fully Precast ISTHA Headwalls
The pictured headwalls are an alternate to the Illinois Tollway’s Sloped Headwall Type III (standard B10-07) which requires both a precast and cast-in-place portion for the structure. UCP adjusted the design of the structure to include the cast-in-place portion with our precast such that the installing contractor received a final product upon delivery to the site. This allowed for a large reduction in required install time and cost, as well as increased the constructability of the headwall. UCP produced thousands of these headwalls this construction season and delivered the bulk, about 2,000, in a three week span.

Wrigley Field Manholes
UCP produced three 12′-0″x6′-0″x7′-0″ specialty manholes with terminators for the Wrigley Field Gold Lot project in Chicago, IL. These manholes included custom windows with a terminator layout requested by the contractor for ease of installation in the field due the tight timeline on this project.
